I daresay that a church cannot exist under such persecution as ours has--including persistent health problems among our Pastor and his family, the loss of several in our church family through death, and a building ravaged by first vandalism and then fire--unless one is speaking truth consistently and passionately from the word of God. Our testimony has been found in the words of Matthew 16:18 and Isaiah 54:17, that the gates of hell have not prevailed against us and that no weapon formed against us shall prosper. "I was attending another church in the For Ashby area, when the Pastor left for other employment. We had a lot of guest speakers. Leon with Cheri Hinkle came to speak one Sunday morning.
I had waited on Leon and Cheri on a number of occasions at the Fort Ashby Volunteer Fire Department oyster dinners. I was amazed and shocked when I heard Leon preach and his message filled my heart. Leon spoke several times at our church. After one Sunday morning service, I asked Leon and Cheri for prayer. My prayer request was so that I could learn more and grow in God’s word.
So I started attending Wednesday night prayer meeting at our church. Waco Biser was filling in as the Pastor. Waco was a great Bible teacher and put hunger in my heart for the word of God.
After a few weeks, Waco left due to illness.
Cheri told me that she and Leon had changed churches and found a fantastic fellowship. They invited me to Wednesday night prayer meeting at Berean Independent Baptist Church. So I did and Pastor Rick stirred my heart to gain more knowledge of the God’s word. I didn’t want the prayer hour to end. I was so motivated with hearing the word of God. I didn’t want to miss a single prayer meeting.
I never knew much about the Holy Spirit till Pastor Rick explained it the way he did. The love that comes from fellowship of the Church is unbelievable. How we were greeted and accepted was amazing.
